This happens because the member set up their profile to hide their email address. Under the "Primary Address" tab in your profile there are two areas where you can check how much privacy you want for your email address: - Hide email links from other members. If you check this option, other members can't see your email address nor can they send you an email. Your contact information is completely private, but you are also "unreachable" for other members. This is the "stealth" mode.
- Allow everyone to see my actual email address. If you click this option, all the members can see your actual email address. This is the "open" mode.
- Email link Only. If you leave both choices unchecked, other members cannot see your email address, but they will see a link that says "Send Member Email" where they can send you an email without knowing your email address. You might call this the "semi-private mode".
Irrespective of how you check these two items, "everyone" in # 2 above does not mean non-members. Nobody can see your email address that is not a member of the Mallards Landing Homeowners Association. That being the case, most members will probably want to check "Allow everyone to see my actual email address". This will show your email address to members but not the outside world.
If; however, you want more privacy but still want to receive email from other members, you can keep your email private by leaving both fields unchecked. This will allow other members to send you an email without knowing your email address.
